notes
As a lover of art objects, collectibles and ephemera, I had no shortage of things to scan in 3D. I ended up using my ball jointed doll Fina, as I had just bought her a new outfit. Many people find dolls creepy due to the uncanny valley effect; not only do I personally find them to be beautiful, I find their embodiment of the uncanny valley to be a fascinating subject for art. Using the mobile app Scaniverse, which enables you to render the scans on your device without the need for a computer, I took a number of scans of her, trying to capture all the minute details of her pose, outfit, and sculpting.

I found it difficult to capture a good scan due to space limitations and personal error. While Scaniverse allows you to pause the scan and reposition your phone, I kept forgetting to pause while making movements, resulting in inaccurate scans. Furthermore, there were very few places in my house that I could get a full 360 degree shot without knocking into furniture, somewhat limiting my options when choosing what object to scan.
